Ally Gurney

Ally Gurney BSc(Hons) Physiotherapy, MSCP, AACP, has worked as a Chartered Physiotherapist for many years, initially qualifying with a first class degree in BSc(Hons) Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation and then a 2:1 in BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy from the University of the West of England. She have also worked in various inpatient and outpatient settings including sub-acute stroke rehabilitation, respiratory, care of the elderly, acute mental health, MSK outpatients for the NHS. She also worked in various private physiotherapy clinics before deciding to take the leap and set up my own practice in April 2023.

Ally’s main interest is getting people back to their sport especially if that involves lifting heavy weights, as a keen olympic weightlifter myself. She enjoys figuring out the complex picture of how a person’s technique and/or loading pattern has led them to their current pain picture. She finds it fascinating breaking movements down to make neuromuscular corrections to poor movement patterns and building them back up to a better stronger version of that person. Further to this Ally highly enjoy looking at the wider impact of a person’s lifestyle to create a more holistic picture of their health and assist them in making the best of their life.

Would definitely recommend Claire she's been absolutely fantastic so lovely & good at her job. I'd not heard of podiatry before the doctors no longer treat issues with feet ect but Claire has worked wonders in just 1 appointment. I will be visiting again & look forward to the experience 😀

Really enjoyable experience, very knowledgeable person would recommend to anyone

We are really happy that we found this clinic. Ally is the best physiotherapist we had in years. Ally helped with several different issues and on a personal level it is genuinely pleasant experience.

Had a great podiatry appointment with Claire yesterday 👣 She was really thorough and gave me a clear plan to fix a long-standing toenail issue. My feet feel amazing – easily the best treatment I’ve had!

Ally is amazing. After surgery and a few left over complications I was feeling pretty broken. Ally listened to all my problems and came up with a plan. I feel like a different person today. Acupuncture, Physio and a work out plan have been a key part of my re-hab. I have been to see Claire too for myself and my kid who had an ingrown toenail. Claire was lovely and explained everything she was doing to put my kid at ease. We have not had an issue with the toe since. Book in asap, don't put YOU off any longer.

I came to Ally with a slipped disc in November. I was in agony. Ally was amazing. She took time to fully assess the injury, actually got hands on and manipulated my back and hip and gave me challenging yet manageable strengthening exercises that quickly helped my back to heal and strengthen. I would heartily recommend her and if I ever am unfortunate enough to suffer from issues in the future, I’ll definitely be a return customer.

I’ve been seeing Ally for physiotherapy for my neck, back and shoulders for more than a year, and my experience has been fantastic. From the start, Ally took the time to really understand my medical condition and the ongoing challenges with my mobility. She combines expert, targeted training with exactly the right muscle release techniques, which has made a huge difference in managing pain and improving how I move day to day. Ally's approach is professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring, and I always feel confident that I’m in safe hands. I would highly recommend Ally to anyone who needs physiotherapy and wants long-term, effective results.

Ally has been amazing from start to finish of my whole physio process. She’s professional but also an absolutely lovely person to be around and have a laugh with. I had tore my meniscus and I’m really happy & impressed as to how quick of a recovery I’ve had. She’s been amazing with helping me get back to normal in the gym and achieving lifts again in CrossFit. If anyone’s looking for an affordable, knowledgable but also a friendly place to go I’d 1000% recommend Ropergate and Ally to anyone 🙌🏻💖

Ally was very knowledgeable about my situation and actually put into context what was happening to me. I'm currently having accuputure to improve blood flow after a collapse in the supermarket and sports massage to ease my tense muscles, not having realised how it was actually effecting other parts of my body. After medical advise, If you are still unsure about alternative therapies i would recommend it whole heartedly. After a couple of sessions I feel more like myself. I can't thank you enough.

I first visited last year after injuring my Achilles. I struggled to walk pain free. Ally and the on site Pediatrist quickly and accurately diagnosed my problem. Now after a combination of Physio and sports massage from the team, im training for an Ultra Marathon in the summer pain free. Cant ask for better than that.

I went to Ally with a neck problem, seemingly from a car accident many years ago. Ally quickly diagnosed the problem and set to work with multiple exercises and movements to sort the problem. Within a few sessions I was in a much better position and also manage to regain a love for going to the gym, all thanks for the guidance and encouragement she gave as part of the sessions. Would 100% recommend to anyone who needs physio support!

I have been suffering with my lower back for around a year but worse over the past 6 months to the point I was struggling to bend and get dressed on a morning and having spasms throughout the day, it got to the point where it was completely debilitating. The doctors didn’t help and a previous physio gave me exercises but again didn’t help. I booked with Ally for acupuncture and she advised I needed physio instead. After the first appointment I could tell a difference, I’ve had numerous appointments of the past 3 months and can honestly say that I’m pretty much back to normal which I didn’t think would ever happen! I would 100% recommend Ally to anyone struggling and can’t thank her enough.

I had an excellent appointment with Claire. She explained everything clearly and went through the details about my needs and gave me her expert opinion. After the meeting I was able to walk without pain and I have been OK since then. I am looking forward to following up in a few weeks time so she can get my feet back on track! Brilliant stuff – thanks

The work that Ally has put in with me over the last 9 Months has changed my life. I went from years worth of pain and agony with lack of mobility and poor assistance from Doctors and guess work from hospital visits to being pain free and fully mobile again. In January of this year i started my journey with Ally's help to try find out what the issue was with my chronic pain in my lower back and right leg which caused me unbearable pain and lack of movement. Ally knew straight away from some tests with my what the issue was and said that once we had my MRI results back from the hospital she would be able to confirm but was certain of the issues i had. (Had seen multiple doctors previously all saying different things and none of there advised helped) MRI results came back and Ally was spot on with what she believe the issue was "herniated Disc that was trapping my root nerve". This stopped me from walking and standing straight with constant pain daily and made life incredibly hard. The work i did with Ally was amazing and every week i felt like there was small but amazing improvements to my pain relief and mobility leading to 4-5 months later i was up and mobile again with close to 0 pain and able to start going to the gym to help grow further strength from the lessons and bits Ally had taught me. 8-9 Months later and i am now with 0 pain fully and run daily and have completed a recent 15k and go snowboarding weekly. My life has turned around massively from all the help and lessons that Ally has taught me to help my body recover properly and cant recommend her enough, plan to see Ally now every couple of months to keep my body happy and working for me the way it should. Thank you for all your help Ally!!!

Definitely one of the best physio’s i have ever seen. Knew exactly where my pain was and the home rehab program given to me was perfect. After a bad fall and a break in my patella actually got my back running after a few appointments. Could not recommend enough 👌🏼

Ally is incredible. When I first visited her with severe neck and shoulder pain, her expertise and compassionate approach immediately put me at ease. She suggested a course of acupuncture, which was a new experience for me, and I am now so grateful for it. Along with some home exercises and the patience Ally showed me, as well as her can-do attitude, I quickly found myself on the path to recovery! I have continued to see Ally for a monthly sports massage, which really helps keep my body in check. I have a lot of respect for Ally; she is knowledgeable, friendly, and truly cares for her clients. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else! Thank you, Ally ❤️

Had beautiful foot treatment today by Claire Hickman.. she made me feel really welcome and was very thorough discussing my needs. Treatment was painless and relaxing… and my feet now feel amazing! Thank you Claire… see you again soon!

I first contacted Ally to ask how she could help with my back pain. She was super informative and knowledgeable so I decided to book an appointment. She immediately put me at ease as it was first time having a sports massage and it was an extra bonus that she was a fully qualified physiotherapist and gave extra insight on what was actually happening with my back. Now I’m moving pain free and I can get back to work and even the gym! Thank you Ally at Ropergate physio, I highly recommend!

I cannot recommend Ally enough ! She has helped me through a painful sciatica episode with hands on and exercises. I am now recovering and my strength is returning all due to Allys treatment, advice and expert knowledge. She is friendly, empathetic and professional in her approach, which made me feel confident in her treatment and advice. A big thank you to Ally and I would have no hesitation in returning to her should I need further treatment.

Been seeing Ally for a few months now and she’s helping me sort out my strength imbalances between my right and left side which have been causing me to get injured and have ongoing issues for quite a while whilst deadlifting in particular. She’s extremely knowledgable and has tailored my rehab to suit my needs. She’s also got a great sense of humour to go with it and makes the sessions enjoyable even if some of the exercises she has me doing are not. Would highly recommend.

Ally provides an amazing service; I first attended the clinic for a neck injury that was hindering weight training. After her assessment, massage & recovery exercises she helped me get back to full training. The clinic is such a nice environment & Ally is amazing at what she does. Highly recommend!!
