Medical Letters

A medical letter typically refers to a formal communication or documentation written by a healthcare professional to convey medical information. These letters serve various purposes within the healthcare system.

Medical Letters

Essential for maintaining continuity of care

These letters are essential for maintaining continuity of care, facilitating collaboration among healthcare professionals, providing a written record of medical information, and ensuring that patients receive appropriate care and follow-up based on their medical history and current condition.

When a patient needs specialised care or consultation from another healthcare provider, their physiotherapist may write a referral letter. This letter introduces the patient and provides relevant medical history and reasons for the referral.

These letters certify an individual’s medical condition for purposes such as sick leave from work or school, disability claims, or fitness for specific activities. They provide details about the patient’s health condition and may specify limitations or requirements for accommodations.

Medical letters facilitate communication between different healthcare professionals involved in a patient’s care. They may include updates on the patient’s condition, treatment progress, test results, and any changes in management plans including request for further imagery investigations.

After a consultation or visit, healthcare providers might send follow-up letters to patients or other healthcare professionals. These letters may summarise the discussion, outline treatment plans, suggest further investigations, or provide recommendations for ongoing care.

In legal cases or insurance claims, medical letters can serve as supporting documents, detailing medical opinions, assessments, or treatments relevant to the case or claim.
